The Death of José Arcadio
Above: A comic about the death of José Arcadio (and the subsequent activities of his blood), from One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, one of my favourite sequences so far (and I'm still not finished it yet, egads, I'm the slowest reader).
Click the image above to read the whole thing!
And below, a few concept pieces for a story I'd like to work on more one day:
Also! I'm looking into making some prints of my single pieces to sell online, and while I have a few in mind already, I was wondering if anyone had anything in particular that they would be interested in purchasing? The ones I'm considering already are these two of the ladies & werewolves, and also this one, of the two women on horseback, but if there's a high enough call for others I'd definitely take that into consideration. :) Thanks!

Dang, love seeing the gesture shown in composition while working the panels.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Dune mythology prints?
I'd love any of your BNW pieces as a print or the "Oh, handmaidens!" from your DeviantArt.
ReplyDeleteFab work as always - somewhere between Richard Sala and Tove Jansson.
woah. love the comic. ur style is sublime.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
ReplyDeleteYour work is beautiful, the style and pacing is captivating.
ReplyDeletedude the flow through that comic is phenomenal! love it.
ReplyDeleteYour comics always blow my mind! Do you have any graphic novels or plans for bigger comic projects?
ReplyDeleteGosh, your concept drawings look amazing! I will echo a commenter above by asking if you have any books out?
ReplyDelete:) If not, you should.
As I think I said on LJ, that comic is one of the greatest things I've seen ever.
ReplyDeleteI'd love prints of Crown and Sword and the ladies on the horse, as well as bits of your fanart (though I'm going to assume that isn't possible 'cause of copyright stuffs).
AWSOME! I think those prints are the way to go, for sure.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, can't wait to see what you post up next, cheers to you and your skill

Ohhh yes! I'm real excited for those ladies/werewolf prints. They're so lovely (as is all your art).
ReplyDeleteWow, I envy your talent for storytelling! It's amazing, again!
ReplyDeleteI would be really interested in buying prints from you!
Is that comic based on a book? You planned it very well. :D You haz good style.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a set of prints for "His Face All Red." I would buy them up in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteOk. Your work is SO GORGEOUS! I love how you draw!!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great!
I stumbled upon your comic "His Face was All Red" and it blew my mind. It was amazing! Keep up the great work
ReplyDeleteI would buy all those prints, if you sold them.
ReplyDeleteLove your work, I think you're my new favourite artist :D I could go into great detail about what I like about your art but let's not give you too much praise, you might start getting big headed :D
ReplyDeleteI love your work that has a bit of a rougher feel to the line, such as the pub scene in "His Face All Red". Pretty much anything from that comic. Or from ".... Arcadio"!
ReplyDeleteWhat enormously beautiful work you have here!! I am very impressed. Greetings from Berlin
ReplyDeleteYou are my new hero o.O
ReplyDeleteSublime. Was just introduced to your art last night and it honestly makes my heart race. Absolutely love your line work, your color choices, your composition. And let me echo what others have said and say that I would quickly buy a book filled with your art.
ReplyDeleteOther prints? I love the Handmaiden piece! But anything really...
I draw a comic called Folly and Innovation and I just stumbled across your stuff. I really like your style. And your moves (as they say). Anyway, keep up the excellent work!
ReplyDeleteHey! I read '100 Years' back in '05 and was blown away. It haunted me for months. I'd have nightmares about the rain, and of Rebeca alone in her house. Yours is the first comic-style treatment I've ever seen of any of it, and you did so well. The pacing is perfect. Also, I just did a portrait of the Raven King over at my site if you'd like to take a look; I know you like JSMN. Keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteBeen looking for an illustrator for my time traveling chip enhanced cave man since '96. You are amazing! Please look these over, see if there is any interest. The stories below are part of an antho just released. Thanks in advance.

Hey, I adore your style, any chance of you doing a post on some of your influences?
ReplyDeleteI thought your style looked familiar, I watch you on DA. Have you ever put Face All Red into a small booklet to buy?
ReplyDeleteI would ADORE that to buy
Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteI was curious to know if you would be ok with me making a short film based off of "His Face All Red"?
I would of course credit your work as an inspiration & add anything you'd like to the credit roll, I'm doing this for fun, not profit.
I'm sorry for speaking to you in an open forum, but I couldn't find your e-mail or anything that would let me message you personally.
I would love to use one of your designs as a tattoo. I could not find a way to get in contact with you to discuss this further.
ReplyDeleteI love your style!
Love that you are thinking about making the ladies and werewolves prints available for order. I especially love the brunette, who seems cheekily happy, and would love to have a print of it.
ReplyDeleteHey Emily!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Elizabeth Armancas, and while I see Brian got to it before me, but I'm also interested in doing a film based on "His Face All Red". Similarly, I couldn't seem to find an email contact for you, but would love to discuss things further if you're at all interested.
All the best,
Elizabeth Armancas

I lovelovelove those panels! I think those would make pretty excellent prints, but this one is my absolute favorite of your ladies with monsters.

I will definitely buy it, if you end up making one of this picture C:
Great to discover your work, Emily. Very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteWOW!! TONS of talent...
ReplyDeleteI bumped into your blog through Vera Brosgol blog and I'm seduced! Your work is so appealing!
ReplyDeleteit's just not fair, how incredibly talented one person can be!?
ReplyDeletehumbled and truly amazed
The composition is superb... you really caught the essence of that part of the story.
ReplyDelete...genial.
Hah. Why do I find a depiction of Jose Arcardio's blood-trail here, now, when merely browsing an artist's work - and not two weeks ago when I was actively hunting for artistic depictions of the book's characters, having just finished reading it.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Lady. You nailed it. Have you done any other work set within Macondo?
@Jakkar: Thank you very much! And I haven't, not yet. I'd very much like to though, there's so many scenes that would be fun to try and draw/comic.
