I've been (off and on) keeping a dream journal for years now, but last month I thought I'd try keeping a visual one instead of spending all that time typing out brain nonsense. Like a lot of folks I have very rambling, complicated dreams (or nightmares, egads), but I know how boring it can be to hear someone retell a whole dream (not to mention painful to draw), so I figured I'd keep to these tiny snippets cut from the larger sprawl. Not every dream I had last month of course, but enough that stuck with me. Probably the closest I'll come to a diary comic!
(And I'd recommend it too, if you don't already record your dreams -- I've mined a lot of ideas and images from mine, and it's a good source of, er, things a Waking You might not have thought of.)

OH! Its is fantastic to found this blog, i love so much all your work, it is so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteSee you, i follow.
This is the coolest thing I've seen all day, just saying. Keep it up, Em! your work is amazingly inspiring.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, recording your dreams. I might try, though I doubt I'd last long doing so.
These are so eerie and lonely. I can almost feel the dream-quality in each of them. Really great.
ReplyDeletethese are really cool very surreal. Also your work is amazing I really love it!
ReplyDeleteOh man - I kept a dream journal with the intent of making comics based on my dreams once. It never happened but you're really making me want to take a stab at it right now. These are great!
ReplyDeleteThese are SO SO SO SO awesome! I've been writing my dreams for years now, and the more I do it the more I can recall. I've always wanted to try illustrating the key moments, you've inspired me thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are beutiful and evoking. It's a shame the dreams were so dark.
ReplyDeleteWOW !
ReplyDeleteJ
What a great idea! Beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteWow, these are so trippy, and the imagery is really striking. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, naturally, it's not enough for you to radiate "awesomeness" at full volume while you're awake, now we find out you're also doing it while you sleep.
ReplyDeleteAmazing.
Amazing what the mind can show you when practically unconscious :))
ReplyDeleteAaaahhhhhh I'm so glad to see your dreams. I've kept my dreams since I was young and usually use them for my paintings (http://www.taryntrousdale.com/). I believe remembering dreams gets easier the more you do it, and now I remember my dreams (even if I don't write them) almost every single night. You've inspired me to try some small, concise drawings now!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, and visual diaries are an awesome idea, whenever I type out my dreams they sound so... weird.
ReplyDeleteYour work is amazing! I want to read more dreams stories.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations from Spain! :D
these are incredible!! thanks for sharing :D
ReplyDeleteooooh I was waiting sooo long ... I love it
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
ReplyDeleteYour style suits the subject perfectly, every one of these could be an animated short.
One a day please! :)
That's a brilliant idea! The four panelled summary for each one feels like snippets from an illustrated novel. I'm currently writing my dissertation about dreams and illustration. (Silly that I didn't think of this before! lol) Yours are so well put together. I imagine it was fairly difficult to do since memory of dreams tends to be rather hazy even if you write it down immediately upon waking (at least for me).
ReplyDeletethese are all fantastic. great blog, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOMG! i love this so much. i wanted long ago to illustrate my dreams in single images but i wasn't satisfied with the way they came out. But i love the way you did it, it works very well.
ReplyDeleteAnd listening about what ppl dream is not boring at all, i love to listen to that and everything related to dreams. So i wanna see more of your dreams ;)
Interesting Idea, I'll have to give it a whirl.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I will start one tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThese are quiet lovely. They really do capture the fragmented perception and weird disconnect of dreams and nightmares.
ReplyDeleteI could see all of them as little animated spots. Ah, these dreams are SO disturbing+ beautiful.
ReplyDelete*bows down*
These are lovely, surreal and haunting. I'm inspired!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a comic book compilation I got for my birthday once called Dreamtoons. It has peoples dreams, only set in four panels and it was published as a comic strip. The artist uses other peoples dreams though. I really like your renditions.
ReplyDeletelove love love
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome but now I'm a little scared to go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiring lady!
ReplyDeleteI want to marry Emily Carroll.
ReplyDeleteAwesome and inspiring! thanks for posting this :)
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled upon your work, I LOVE it! :) Your Dune characters, your dream journal...awesome!! Thank you for the inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteI post parts of my dreams on facebook, as my status. One friend suggested I do a comic of my dreams (and I loved the idea) another friend directed me here, and I love it. Thank you for sharing. PS When you are holding up your hand in your dream are you attempting to lucid dream? I did this when I was younger, when I first heard about Lucid dreaming. Keep sharing xo
ReplyDeletedamn. i love style! i especially loved your dream journal and your illustrations! absolutely wonderful! :D
ReplyDeletei find other people's dreams fascinating,
ReplyDeleteand this is the best way i have seen of retelling them.
and i like your dreams a lot.
i've just been reading all of your other comics on your website.
I want to tell you what a BIG BIG BIG inspiration you are to me- your style is absolutely delightful, and I adore your dark macabre twists in your stories. I read ALL your comics and I am honestly admitting that many of them gave me a genuine chill. There's just something so arresting about your pacing, your words, the colours-the paneling...
ReplyDeleteYou are an absolute delight. Please never stop creating beautifully dark comics, and never ever stop drawing.
love, a fan.
awesome!such a cool idea! n BEAUTIFUL art at that!<3
ReplyDeleteOMG!!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for sharing these.
It's really is weird, wonderful, intimate, and inspiring.
i tend to write my dreams a lot, and i think is a really beautiful idea to draw them, i might try that as well. since monday 12 i keep dreaming about snakes. (i love snakes but i never had snakes in my dreams 4 days in a row)
ReplyDeleteon the 12th it was a voice in my head telling me "seek for the knowledge and follow the snake" (a snake pattern made from white stones on a dirt wall) thats when i woke up xD.
incredible. so glad I found this, you've inspired me to attempt this as well
ReplyDeleteI have to say... I quite disagree with your view of Duncan Idaho. Otherwise, this is all so amazing.
